Collaboration with HE-Arc University in Neuchâtel

4/15/2021

Fresh ideas to face encouraging challenges

Emile is a student at the Haute-Ecole Arc Ingénierie, with an entrepreneurial mindset, who came across our ecodesign activities. So he proposed us a collaboration to help EeD to develop a crucial functional unit in one of our current projects, where his skills in ergonomic design are much valued.  He is a torrent of energy and creativity. We were amazed by the interest he showed during our videocalls, so...we couldn't say no! :)

Since some weeks ago, EeD and HE-Arc have started a collaboration project where Emile has been engaged to help us in this product development process. Their values and ours are much in common: the end-user shall be the main focus of the product design process. With this core idea in mind, we share ideas, perform surveys, discuss product features and possibilities... But there is nothing like the feedback and feeling you have from a prototype.
This collaboration is just the beginning of a long-lasting synergetic relationship where, the environment and the end-user with be most benefited. We are eager to find what comes from Emile's contribution... so far, so promising!

New collaborations to come

It is EeD's DNA to back partnerships where ecodesign is valued. In this sense, interesting collaborations with local and foreign start-ups and Universities will start in the coming weeks. Joining forces is the key to make solid projects, share ideas, learn, and bring prosperity in a decentralised world.

Interview with Kelly Logan about ecoefficiency

6/18/2020

This is the first piece of a kind interview that Kelly Logan, managing director at Logan & Partners, made me at the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne.

Kelly is much interested in getting deeper knowledge about Circular Economy. So, he contacted Eco-efficient Design to know more about it from an ecodesigner's perspective.

We talked for quite long, but in this short fragment I introduce the concept of ecoefficiency and how this objective is so important for a company...and how it happened to name our product design agency.

Back to the basics

4/25/2020

A half-full glass

These are days to stay home. For some resigned teleworkers it is an endless chaotic period in which balancing work and personal life makes it sort of a hell.
For others, this is an opportunity to do things differently, to learn something new, or just to wake up a little bit later and forget about traffic jams and ringing phones and to work in pyjamas.

A pen is a mighty tool

I was sitting in the kitchen with my daughter doing some hand-painting. A red right hand here, a green left half-hand there, spare lines and paint stains everywhere.

Following we started on the colour pencils... and the magic did the rest. Hands, lines and stains became crocodiles, puppies, swan eggs, uncle Michael, mum and dad, whales and cars.

For me it was a clear invitation to get back to pen an paper - under her permission, of course. I was determined to just do the same. Enjoying. So, I did some wild sketching of stuff and ideas. No matter what.

All of a sudden, a solution to a project I had been wandering about for days came like a spark. This experience was a turning point.
Isn't it amazing how fast and free a child's mind can move?
How simple they find connections in a disperse Venn diagram?
How constrained we are by logic?

Keep it simple and enjoy it!

Prototyping prior to launching

Last steps before introducing to the Market a garbage compactor made of recyclable material and completely recyclable. The ideal partner to help you reduce volume of waste!
Multiple sizes and features for domestic and hospitality industries. It's designed in 3 different capacities, namely 17, 35 and 60 Litre Capacity for mixed waste.
It's affordable, dependable, environment-friendly, inspired by the circular economy, upcycling, and zero waste philosophies. Helps save money on garbage disposal bags.

We urge mankind not to making garbage a commodity. We deserve a clean and nourishing environment.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Gratitude to the 4 design consultants in Switzerland, Spain, Germany and Portugal involved in the prototyping of the design.

Despite distance, Covid-19, and restrictions, we made it!

Linking geriatrics and Circular Economy | new project ongoing!

6/11/2019

Helping older people: an additional motivation

We have the great luck to take part in touching projects. But this time, not only will it defy our design skills, but also will it involve us emotionally.
Our new goal is to develop a device allowing older people to stroll freely, and preventing them from being injured or harmed in case of falling.

Specialists of a Day Care Centre in Madrid, explained to us the huge need of such a device, and how existing strollers do not solve this problem. So, we have been honoured to devise it and to make it available and, of course, affordable.
This project implies many design constraints. We have tight collaboration with specialists in geriatrics and physiotherapist, to find a technically and economically feasible solution that is also adequate to the reality our elderly live.

This will be a product created by end-users for the benefit of themselves. We are just putting engineering to work, translating needs into well-being, physical limitations into freedom. Design Thinking in its purest state to create an innovative fall-preventive zimmer frame.

Needless to say that, the product will strictly follow all ecodesign rules to provide a top-quality solution without harming the environment. Well...we have just said it :)

Overpackaging | How to abuse from packaging materials

2/8/2019

The art of wasting materials

In our complicated system, even the little pleasure of munching a chocolate at work can also harm the Planet. A wrong decision with the waste plastic wrap can yield unexpected results in the environment: from feeding a turtle in the ocean to being part of the landscape for centuries. Extrapolating this to the tens of products we use daily and multiplying it by some thousands of million consumers in the world, we will agree the impact per day of badly-managed waste packaging can’t be neglected.

Wrapping, packaging and boxes make sense in a production chain. They exist to prevent products from degradation, wear, damages or breaking before their consumption or use. But, haven’t we gone too far? I’m sure you will have bought products in boxes containing boxes with more boxes and bubble plastic in them (typical of e-commerce). Or maybe fitted into shaped plastic containers, wrapped in plastic, placed in a box also wrapped in plastic (industrial biscuits, for instance). Yes. There’s room in the industrial world for ridiculousness.
Overpackaging
Is it really necessary to wrap and pack all products? Or rather, to wrap and pack products already wrapped and packed!? Which are the consequences of this inefficient use of materials for our lives and the environment?
